ATC Rejects Imran Khan’s Request for Medical Examination by Personal Doctors

Islamabad — An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan’s request to undergo medical treatment and examination by his personal doctors.

The decision was announced after the completion of hearings on Khan’s plea in Rawalpindi. The case was heard by ATC Judge Syed Amjad Ali Shah, who had earlier reserved the verdict following arguments from both sides.

In his petition, Imran Khan requested that his medical check-up be conducted by his personal physicians, including Dr Asim, Dr Khurram, and Dr Samina. The defence argued that access to personal doctors is Khan’s constitutional, legal, and moral right, adding that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had also been allowed treatment by personal physicians in the past.

The defence further cited Rawalpindi Jail Rule 795, stating that jail authorities are required to inform family members about any medical examination of an inmate. After the hearing, defence counsel Faisal Malik told reporters that Imran Khan is a former prime minister and a national leader, and that access to personal doctors is his fundamental right.

Faisal Malik also said that the Adiala Jail superintendent did not submit a medical report to the court, instead informing the judge that Imran Khan was receiving medical treatment inside the jail.

Later, Judge Amjad Ali Shah announced the reserved verdict, dismissing Imran Khan’s request. The court ruled that under jail rules, the accused is already receiving proper medical care, and therefore there was no need to allow treatment by personal doctors.
