US Court Challenge Filed Against Trump Administration’s Suspension of Immigrant Visas for Pakistan, 74 Other Countries

New York: A decision by the Trump administration to suspend the processing of immigrant visas for citizens of Pakistan and 74 other countries has been challenged in a US federal court.
A group of civil rights organizations has filed a lawsuit against the US Department of State in a federal court in New York, arguing that the policy undermines decades of established US immigration law.
According to the petitioners, the suspension has caused widespread harm to families and individuals and represents a significant departure from long-standing legal and administrative practices governing immigration to the United States.
The lawsuit urges the court to immediately halt the implementation of the visa policy and declare the decision unlawful.
The suspension of immigrant visa processing came into effect on January 21.
Countries affected by the decision include Pakistan, Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bhutan, Bosnia, and several others.
