Balochistan Food Authority Cracks Down on Substandard Food: 2 Factories Sealed, 30 Outlets Fined

**Quetta:** The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has launched a major crackdown across the province against the production and sale of substandard and unsafe food, resulting in the sealing of two factories and hefty fines imposed on 30 outlets.

According to a BFA spokesperson, during operations in Quetta—including areas such as Eastern Bypass, Juttak Stop, and Sarki Road—food safety teams shut down a tamarind-processing unit due to serious violations. The unit lacked laboratory test reports, had non-compliant processing lines, and failed to properly segregate raw materials, packaging, and spoiled items. Inspections also revealed fungus-contaminated fruits, unhygienic storage, poor sanitation, lack of waste management, and inadequate pest control. Product registration and labeling approvals were missing, and workers were found without protective gear, leading to an immediate halt in production.

Additionally, a snack-manufacturing unit in the area was sealed for failing to comply with food safety and hygiene standards. Violations included poor cleanliness, unregistered products, absence of lab reports, unapproved labels, pre-printed production and expiry dates, lack of ingredient traceability, and improper storage of packaging and finished products.

Beyond Quetta, BFA teams conducted inspections in districts including Noshki, Dera Murad Jamali, Loralai, Qila Saifullah, and Panjgur, issuing fines for multiple violations.

Newly appointed DG BFA Habibullah Khan emphasized, “Providing the public with safe, quality, and hygienic food is our foremost responsibility, and no compromise will be tolerated.” He warned food business operators to fully comply with food safety regulations or face strict legal action.

He added that BFA is enhancing its monitoring systems across the province and will continue taking action against those endangering public health. Citizens are urged to report any production or sale of substandard food to the authority for timely intervention.
