JUI to Observe “Black Day” Against February 8, 2024, Elections, Fazlur Rehman to Lead Rally in Rawalpindi

Islamabad: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) has announced that it will observe February 8, 2024, as a “Black Day” to protest the controversial and allegedly rigged elections held on that date.
JUI spokesperson Aslam Ghori said the party would organize protests across the country, highlighting concerns that democracy is weakening and the Constitution of Pakistan is being undermined. He added that Maulana Fazlur Rehman will address the central protest program in Rawalpindi.
Ghori further stated that robust protests will take place at all provincial headquarters, with patriotic citizens standing against unconstitutional laws that conflict with the Quran and Shariah. He said demonstrators would also raise their voices against inflation, unemployment, insecurity, and lawlessness.
“The public mandate cannot be stolen. To protect Shariah, the Constitution, and democracy, we will pursue all constitutional, democratic, and peaceful measures,” Ghori said, calling on party workers to complete their preparations.
Sources said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman has instructed JUI teams in Rawalpindi and Islamabad to begin preparations for the rally marking the second anniversary of the February 8 elections.
