Movement for Protection of Constitution Demands Article 6 Against Those Who “Stole Public Mandate

Karachi (Qudrat Daily): The Movement for the Protection of the Constitution of Pakistan (Tahreek Tahafuz Aain Pakistan) has demanded that Article 6 be invoked against those responsible for allegedly stealing the public mandate, calling for a neutral Election Commission and free, fair, and transparent elections.
These demands were outlined in the communiqué issued after an All Parties Conference (APC) held at the Karachi Press Club. The opposition alliance stressed the need for an impartial Election Commission and immediate electoral reforms to ensure genuine democratic processes.
The communiqué stated that those who deprived the people of their electoral mandate should be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution. It further alleged that the Sindh government has failed to provide basic facilities to the public and claimed that media freedom has been curtailed through the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments.
The conference strongly condemned the forced transfers of judges and demanded the release of political prisoners, including former prime minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. The participants also criticized restrictions on meetings with Imran Khan and called for the immediate lifting of the ban.
The APC denounced what it termed false cases against leaders of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and demanded the repeal of the PECA Act, citing concerns over press freedom. It also condemned alleged false FIRs against journalist Matiullah Jan and cases against prominent lawyer Iman Mazari and her husband.
The Movement said that economic stability is directly linked to political stability, warning that multinational companies are on the verge of shutting down. It demanded an end to enforced disappearances of political workers and urged the implementation of decisions taken in the jirga held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The alliance further called on the government to halt military operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stressing that under the Constitution, mineral resources belong to the provinces. It also demanded that water distribution be carried out in accordance with the 1991 Water Accord.
On foreign affairs, the APC expressed concern over rising regional tensions, including pressure on Iran, and urged the government to convene a conference of neighboring countries to address potential crises. It also demanded a joint session of Parliament to discuss the situation in Gaza.
The opposition alliance announced that February 8 will be observed as a “Black Day,” with a shutter-down and wheel-jam strike across the country.
