Lahore High Court Issues Tough Remarks on Property Ownership Act Case, Orders Immediate Return of Possessed Property

**Islamabad/Lahore:** The Lahore High Court heard a petition challenging actions under the Punjab **Property Ownership Act**, directing a citizen who had unlawfully taken possession of property through a DRC committee to immediately return it.
The hearing was presided over by **Chief Justice Lahore High Court, Justice Alia Neelam**, on the petition filed by Muhammad Ali. The citizen who had acquired the property also appeared in court.
Chief Justice Neelam questioned the lawyer of the occupant, asking how they could defend a wrongful decision. The lawyer acknowledged that the committees formed by DCs had exceeded their authority.
Justice Neelam remarked, “Return the property first, then we will discuss further. Why not initiate action against the committee members? The lawyer himself admits that DCs overstepped their powers. If the patwari had done their work on time, this issue would never have arisen. When you bypass the system, such situations occur.”
When the lawyer asked where people should go if justice is not served, the Chief Justice responded, “Do not use this forum for media headlines or publicity.” The lawyer argued that many cases do not see decisions, to which Justice Neelam replied, “Do not speak emotionally; I am aware of how many old cases exist here.”
The lawyer further highlighted that opponents were occupying **40 acres of property in Depalpur**, prompting the court to reiterate the need for proper legal procedures and immediate restitution.
