MP Sher Afzal Marwat Alleges Police Involvement in Robberies in Islamabad

Islamabad: Member of National Assembly Sher Afzal Marwat has accused police officers of carrying out robberies in Islamabad, claiming that the incidents are being disguised as operations by intelligence agencies.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Marwat said that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) raided five locations in Islamabad under the name of an intelligence agency, confiscating laptops and other valuables. He alleged that during these raids, officers stole furniture and equipment from the premises.

Marwat further claimed that in one incident, a police officer returned two crore rupees after being caught in a robbery. He said that checkpoints have been set up in 41 locations across Islamabad, causing long queues and public inconvenience.

Responding to Marwat’s statement, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said that the matter had been brought to his attention, and police officers involved have been arrested and charged. He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for such cases and confirmed that NCCIA officials are suspended and under investigation.

Talal Chaudhry added that while some officials are involved in misconduct, other departments are performing good work. He noted ongoing crackdowns against call centers involved in global financial frauds that harm Pakistan’s reputation.
