Heavy Rain Floods Low-Lying Areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad

RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD: Heavy rainfall for the second consecutive day has inundated several low-lying areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
According to the Managing Director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), the highest rainfall of 116 millimetres was recorded in the Shamsabad area of Rawalpindi.
The MD WASA said a rain emergency had been declared to deal with any emergency situation, while leave for field staff had been cancelled.
Heavy machinery has been deployed in low-lying areas around Liaquat Bagh, Committee Chowk Underpass and Murree Road, he said.
Heavy machinery has also been positioned in low-lying areas of Dhok Khabba, Circular Road and Sadiqabad.
According to the MD WASA, the water level in Nullah Lai has reached 10.5 feet at Katarian and 8.5 feet at Gawalmandi.
