KP Assembly Committee’s Letter to Peshawar Corps Commander Sparks New Controversy

Peshawar:A letter written by the **Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s Special Committee on Security** to the **Peshawar Corps Commander**, seeking an in-camera briefing, has triggered a fresh controversy.
According to a private TV channel, a letter issued on behalf of the special committee through the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly stated that **lasting peace cannot be achieved through military operations alone**, and that **political and social measures are also essential**.
Security sources have termed the letter **irresponsible and lacking seriousness**, stating that neither the provincial assembly nor the provincial government has the authority to directly request an **in-camera or institutional briefing** from military leadership, particularly a **Corps Commander or GHQ**.
Speaking to the media, security sources categorically confirmed that **no such letter has been received by the Corps Headquarters so far**.
They further clarified that while routine coordination and regular communication between civil and military authorities does exist, **an in-camera briefing on law and order inside a provincial assembly is not a routine matter**. Such a sensitive and formal institutional process, they emphasized, **requires approval at the federal level**.
