Violent Anti-Government Protests Intensify in Iran, Internet Shut Down, 45 Killed

Iran: Violent protests against the Iranian government have intensified across the country, with demonstrations that began over economic hardships now taking on a clear political dimension. Authorities have suspended internet services nationwide as unrest spreads, while at least 45 people, including security personnel, have reportedly been killed during the violence.

According to details, protests are ongoing in 27 out of Iran’s 31 provinces, with traders and citizens from various walks of life participating in demonstrations. Protesters have blocked major highways in key cities by burning tires, leading to widespread disruption and clashes that have resulted in casualties.

Iranian media have reported the presence of armed agitators, alleging their involvement in stone-pelting and direct firing at police forces. In an effort to control the situation and prevent further escalation, the Iranian government has deployed additional police and security personnel across affected areas. Authorities have also completely suspended internet services to curb coordination among protesters.

This is not the first time Iranian authorities have used internet shutdowns as a tool during periods of unrest. However, internet monitoring group NetBlocks has stated that it remains unclear under what specific framework the internet was shut down during the current wave of protests.

The demonstrations, now continuing for 12 consecutive days, have intensified demands for controlling inflation and halting the sharp devaluation of the Iranian currency, which has severely impacted the cost of living.

Earlier, former US President Donald Trump, in a message posted on his social media platform Truth Social, warned Iran of a strong and severe response if protesters were killed or harmed during the unrest. Meanwhile, US ally Israel has previously carried out strikes against Iran, further heightening regional tensions amid the ongoing crisis.
