89 Miners Killed in Balochistan During 2025, Eight Deaths Reported in December: Labour Federation

**Quetta:** As many as 89 coal miners lost their lives in mine-related accidents across Balochistan during 2025, with eight fatalities reported in December alone, according to data released by the Pakistan Central Mines Labour Federation.

The federation stated that seven separate incidents occurred during December, resulting in the deaths of eight miners. It added that the fatality rate in Balochistan’s coal mines is several times higher than in other provinces. During 2025, mine-related deaths stood at 41 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 14 in Punjab, and six in Sindh.

According to the federation’s statistics, a total of 618 miners have lost their lives in Balochistan over the past eight years, highlighting persistent safety failures in the mining sector.

Labour Federation leader Sultan Muhammad Khan said that miners routinely face life-threatening risks, including suffocation, exposure to poisonous gases, roof collapses, explosions, and severe lung diseases. He stressed that ensuring the safety and protection of miners is their fundamental right and urged authorities to take immediate and effective measures to prevent further loss of life.
