Attacks on Christian Community Intensify in India as Extremists Target Christmas Celebrations

New Delhi:Reports of violence and intimidation against the Christian community in India have intensified, with extremist elements increasingly attempting to disrupt Christmas celebrations across the country.
According to local sources, new tactics are being used to prevent Christians from observing Christmas. Allegedly, members affiliated with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have entered churches, issuing threats and intimidation. Extremist groups reportedly warned Christians that they would not be allowed to celebrate such festivals in India and threatened them with expulsion from the country if Christmas celebrations continued.
A video circulating widely on social media shows people celebrating Christmas at a public place in New Delhi being forcibly removed by unidentified individuals, drawing widespread condemnation.
In recent days, reports have also emerged from Chhattisgarh, where extremist Hindu groups allegedly set houses on fire during door-to-door attacks. These incidents have sparked strong reactions from Indian civil society, which has described the acts as shameful and deeply concerning.
Observers argue that government silence and alleged support from certain political officeholders are contributing to the rise in extremism. They say such attacks not only violate religious freedom but also reflect growing fear and pressure faced by religious minorities in India.
The developments come shortly after another controversial incident in which the Chief Minister of the Indian state of Bihar was criticized for allegedly pulling the veil of a Muslim woman, an act that also drew strong public backlash.
