Iran Confirms Completion of Swiss Talks, Technical Teams to Continue Work

TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has confirmed that the work of the negotiating delegation in Switzerland has been completed, while technical teams will continue their discussions on remaining issues.

Speaking about the talks held in Switzerland, Baghaei said that an official joint statement regarding the negotiations would be issued by Pakistan and Qatar, which acted as mediators during the discussions.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, the parties reached an agreement on establishing a mechanism to ensure the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.

Baghaei stated that the talks focused on laying the groundwork for the start of a final agreement and that encouraging progress was made regarding the implementation of responsibilities by the other side.

He added that although the negotiating delegation had completed its work, technical teams would continue their efforts from today, as practical and technical aspects of the agreement still require further discussion and refinement.

The negotiations took place on Sunday in the Swiss resort area of Bürgenstock, where Iranian and American delegations met in the presence of mediators from Pakistan and Qatar.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir welcomed US Vice President J.D. Vance, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and the Prime Minister of Qatar, in what was described as a historic diplomatic gathering that drew worldwide attention.
