Balochistan Informs NFC Meeting of Escalating Security Costs, Revenue Challenges Amid Worsening Law and Order

Quetta (Daily Qudrat) – The Balochistan government has informed participants of the initial National Finance Commission (NFC) Award meeting that the province is facing severe difficulties in revenue and tax collection due to the deteriorating law and order situation.

The briefing took place during the NFC Award meeting chaired by Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, with Balochistan Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Noshrwani and Technical Member Masood Ali Khan in attendance. The provincial delegation presented a detailed overview of Balochistan’s financial conditions, challenges, and measures taken over the past 15 years.

Officials highlighted that during the 7th NFC Award, the province spent approximately PKR 5 billion on security, a figure that has now exceeded PKR 100 billion due to worsening law and order. The delegation noted that such heavy security expenditures leave limited funds available for social welfare and development projects.

The briefing further emphasized that terrorism and violent elements remain prominent in Balochistan, severely affecting governance and economic activity. The meeting concluded with a decision to establish working groups by January, which will hold regular sessions to formulate further strategies and decisions regarding the province’s financial and security challenges.
