Imran Khan Meets Sister After 29 Days; Alleges Mental Torture in Jail

Rawalpindi: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan met his sister, Dr. Azma Khan, at Adiala Jail after 29 days, during which he reportedly expressed extreme anger over his treatment and alleged he was being subjected to mental torture.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Dr. Azma Khan confirmed that Imran Khan’s health is good, but he was visibly very angry. She revealed that Khan said, “They neither let me speak to anyone nor allow meetings. This is mental torture, and one person is responsible for it.” She added that he is kept confined to his cell most of the day and is only occasionally allowed outside.
Dr. Azma Khan’s 20-minute visit was conducted under strict security, with heavy police deployment and multiple checkpoints around Adiala Jail. Only one-on-one meetings were allowed, and other PTI leaders, including Alima Khan and Barrister Salman Akram Raja, were not granted access.
In anticipation of the meeting, Section 144 was imposed in Rawalpindi for three days, banning political and religious gatherings. Schools, shops, and commercial establishments along Adiala Road were closed, and more than 700 police officers and personnel were deployed, equipped with anti-riot gear. Additional security measures included eight or more checkpoints near key areas such as Dahel Naka, Gate 1, Gate 5, Factory Naka, and Gorakhpur.
PTI workers gathered near the jail in large numbers, chanting slogans after the meeting was allowed. The administration emphasized that violations of Section 144 would lead to legal action, and all law enforcement agencies coordinated to maintain law and order.
Dr. Azma Khan stressed that while Imran Khan is physically healthy, the confinement and restrictions constitute severe mental strain, highlighting the tense conditions surrounding the PTI chairman’s imprisonment.
