Government Reduces Petrol Levy by Rs40.49 Per Litre, Raises Diesel Levy

ISLAMABAD:** Sources in the Petroleum Division have revealed that the government has significantly reduced the petroleum levy on petrol while increasing the levy on high-speed diesel.

According to sources, the levy on petrol has been cut by **Rs40.49 per litre**, bringing it down from **Rs106.74** to **Rs66.25 per litre**.

In contrast, the levy on diesel has been increased by **Rs19.71 per litre**. The diesel levy has been raised from **Rs53.26** to **Rs72.97 per litre**.

Petroleum Division sources said that the average levy on both petrol and diesel has now fallen below **Rs80 per litre**. The combined levy on the two fuels currently stands at **Rs139.22 per litre**.

The reduction in the overall levy was made after the government achieved its petroleum levy collection target for the current fiscal year, sources added.

The development comes shortly after the government announced major reductions in fuel prices, lowering the price of **petrol by Rs74 per litre** and **diesel by Rs67 per litre**, providing significant relief to consumers.
