Punjab Government Increases Fines for Traffic Violations; New Ordinance Effective Immediately

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) — The **Punjab government** has issued a new ordinance increasing fines for traffic violations, effective **immediately across the province**. The revised fines aim to ensure compliance with traffic laws and promote road safety.
Under the new rules:
* Violating traffic signals: **Motorcycles Rs 2,000**, **cars Rs 5,000**, **commercial vehicles Rs 15,000**.
* Reckless or negligent driving: **Motorcycles Rs 3,000**, **cars Rs 5,000**.
* Driving without a license: **Motorcycles Rs 2,000**, **cars Rs 5,000**, **commercial vehicles Rs 15,000**.
* Excessive smoke emission: **Motorcycles Rs 2,000**, **three-wheelers and cars Rs 3,000**, **commercial vehicles Rs 15,000**.
* Lane violations: **Motorcycles Rs 2,000**, **three-wheelers and cars Rs 3,000**, **commercial vehicles Rs 15,000**.
* Carrying more than two passengers on motorcycles: **Rs 2,000**.
* Using mobile phones while driving: **Motorcycles Rs 2,000**, **three-wheelers and cars Rs 3,000**.
* Commercial vehicles without fitness certificates or road permits: **Rs 15,000**.
* Underage drivers: **Motorcycles Rs 2,000**, **three-wheelers Rs 3,000**, **cars Rs 5,000**.
The ordinance also introduces a **point system** on driving licenses to maintain records of traffic violations.
**DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir** urged citizens to **adhere to traffic laws** and ensure safe travel for themselves and others.
