European Parliament Recommends Minimum Social Media Age of 16

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) — The European Parliament has approved a resolution recommending that the minimum age for using social media platforms across the European Union be set at 16.
According to international media reports, the resolution proposes that children under 16 may only use social media in cases of necessity and with the consent of a parent or guardian.
The draft, which was first circulated in October, also gives EU member states the flexibility to maintain a minimum age of 13 if they choose.
Although the resolution is non-binding and does not create any enforceable law, it is being seen as a significant step toward future legislation aimed at enhancing digital safety across EU nations.
Several countries around the world — including Australia, France, Denmark, and Malaysia — have already set minimum social media age limits between 15 and 16. These measures aim to protect children from sexually explicit content, exploitation, harmful material, and cybercrime.
