President Trump Announces Plan to Work Toward Ending Sudan Conflict Following Saudi Request

WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that his administration will soon begin efforts to help end the ongoing war in Sudan, following a request from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Speaking at the U.S.–Saudi Business Forum, President Trump said the Saudi Crown Prince urged him to take a strong initiative regarding Sudan. “Sudan was not among my priorities,” Trump stated, adding that he initially viewed the situation as “madness and spiraling out of control.” However, he noted he now realizes that Sudan is important to “many friends and to all of you,” which prompted him to take action.

President Trump emphasized that his administration would soon start working on the Sudan conflict at the Crown Prince’s request.

Sudan has been engulfed in violent clashes since 2023 between government forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a powerful rebel militia. Last month, the RSF attacked and seized control of the city of Al-Fasher, reportedly killing more than 2,000 people.

According to the United Nations, over 13,000 people have been killed so far in the Sudan conflict, with the humanitarian situation worsening as violence continues.
