Iran Warns of Naval Exclusion Zone in Gulf if US Economic War Continues
TEHRAN:Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, has warned the United States that Tehran could establish a naval exclusion zone in the Persian Gulf if Washington continues its economic war against Iran.
In a post on social media platform X, Rezaei said Iran would respond to the economic war by establishing a naval exclusion zone extending into areas of the Persian Gulf where the US blockade is in effect.
He claimed that Iran had sent a clear message to the United States in recent days through its new missiles. According to Rezaei, Tehran had also fundamentally changed its military strategy concerning US warships and military bases.
The Iranian official issued the warning at a time when maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf is already severely disrupted, while tensions between the United States and Iran remain high.
According to Reuters, Iran has also threatened to establish a new restricted maritime zone, where unauthorized vessels entering the area could face restrictions.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical passage for global energy trade. Any establishment of a new naval exclusion zone in the Gulf could therefore place additional pressure on international trade and global oil supplies.
