Senior Supreme Court Judges Resign Following Approval of 27th Constitutional Amendment

Islamabad: Senior Supreme Court judges, **Justice Mansoor Ali Shah** and **Justice Athar Minallah**, have tendered their resignations in protest against the recently approved **27th Constitutional Amendment**.
In a **13-page resignation letter**, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah described the amendment as a **serious assault on the Constitution of Pakistan**, saying it has **fragmented the Supreme Court** and placed the judiciary under the control of the government. He emphasized that the amendment strikes at the **very spirit of Pakistan’s constitutional democracy** and undermines justice, leaving ordinary citizens vulnerable and powerless.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah stated that he has served the judiciary with **honor, integrity, and conscience**, and that his resignation comes without any regret. He warned that the amendment has **set back the country by decades** by compromising judicial independence and dividing the nation’s highest court.
Justice Athar Minallah has also resigned in response to the amendment. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah concluded his resignation with lines inspired by the poet Ahmed Faraz, expressing his commitment to justice and conscience despite the challenges faced.
Following the approval of the 27th Amendment, the **Constitutional Court will be established**, with sources indicating that **Justice Aminuddin Khan** is likely to serve as its first Chief Justice.
