27th Amendment: Discussions on Judicial Transfers and Chief Election Commissioner Appointment Continue

Islamabad: The 27th Constitutional Amendment is expected to be presented in the Senate today, with possible revisions to some of its clauses.
After approval by the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Law and Justice, the amendment will be tabled in the Senate. Sources indicate that judges who have been transferred but are reluctant to move will not be immediately retired. Cases of judges objecting to transfers will be referred to the Supreme Judicial Council.
Sources further stated that government allies discussed whether the presidential exemption for a retired president returning to political life should remain or be removed. However, issues regarding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner have not yet been resolved.
The proposed draft includes adding the phrase “of Pakistan” before references to the Supreme Court and the Federal Constitutional Court. Meanwhile, efforts continue to incorporate amendments proposed by MQM regarding local government institutions.
