Refineries Decide to Cut Diesel Price by More Than Rs32 per Litre: Ali Pervaiz Malik
ISLAMABAD: Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has announced that oil refineries have decided to reduce the price of diesel by more than Rs32 per litre, with the benefit expected to be passed on to consumers.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad alongside Information Minister Atta Tarar, Ali Pervaiz Malik said several countries were facing difficulties in maintaining diesel supplies amid the ongoing war-related situation.
He said the government had held consultations with oil refineries, following which the refineries decided to reduce the price of diesel by more than Rs32 per litre.
“A significant reduction in the price of diesel will be witnessed today,” the petroleum minister said, adding that the government would ensure the benefit of the reduction was transferred to the public.
Ali Pervaiz Malik said the government was aware of the difficulties being faced by the people due to the prevailing situation. He noted that targeted subsidies had also been introduced to provide relief to consumers amid high fuel prices.
He said the government understood the hardships faced by the public and was making every effort to provide relief wherever possible. According to him, subsidies on petroleum products were also part of the government’s relief measures.
The minister expressed optimism that the difficult period would eventually come to an end and assured that the government would make every possible effort to protect the interests of the people.
Information Minister Atta Tarar said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had chaired a meeting attended by the petroleum minister and other relevant officials.
He said the prime minister had directed officials to hold negotiations with oil refineries and ensure that whatever relief was possible was passed on to the public.
Tarar said providing maximum relief to the people had remained the government’s priority and hinted that further good news could be announced for the public in the coming days.
