KP IG Says Terrorism Cannot Be Controlled Without Army Support

Peshawar: The inside details of the recent **Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Security Committee meeting** have surfaced, revealing a concerning security situation in the province. According to sources, **Inspector General (IG) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police** briefed the committee, stating that **the police alone cannot control terrorism without the support of the army** due to limited resources, manpower, and operational capacity.

The IG reportedly informed the committee that the **total strength of the provincial police is around 130,000 personnel**, of which **20 to 30 percent are assigned to the security of VIPs and high-profile individuals**. This leaves only about **80,000 active officers available for counterterrorism operations**, which he said is **insufficient** to meet the province’s security needs.

Sources added that the IG highlighted several critical issues, including **a shortage of vehicles, inadequate office and police station infrastructure**, and a **severe lack of manpower within the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD)**. He also pointed out **deficiencies in training and technological capabilities**, stressing that the **current budget is inadequate** to modernize the force.

“The budget allocated to police is less than the cost of constructing even one kilometer of the ring road,” the IG lamented, emphasizing the urgent need for **greater funding, technological upgrades, and coordinated military support** to effectively combat the rising threat of terrorism in the province.
