Pakistan Air Force Day Marked Nationwide in Honor of 1965 War Heroes

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is observing **Air Force Day** today (September 7) to commemorate the heroic aerial battle fought during the 1965 war, when PAF pilots showcased unmatched bravery and skill, thwarting the enemy’s ambitions.
On this day in 1965, the “Shaheens” of the Pakistan Air Force scripted history with their courage, securing victory for the nation in the skies. The nation especially recalls the legendary feat of Squadron Leader **M.M. Alam**, who shot down five Indian fighter jets in less than a minute—a record that remains etched as a golden chapter in PAF history.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, paid tribute to the PAF, saying he takes pride in the force’s ability to dominate aerial combat. He lauded the Air Force’s indomitable multi-dimensional capabilities as proof of its innovation and strength, noting that it has repeatedly demonstrated that no enemy can defeat the spirit of Pakistan.
The Prime Minister further said the PAF played a decisive role in the “Battle of Right Against Wrong,” stunning the world by completely overwhelming the enemy.
Special homage was also paid to **Shaheed Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas**, the youngest recipient of Nishan-e-Haider, whose sacrifice remains a symbol of honor and inspiration for the nation.
