UN Report Flags Afghanistan Under Taliban as Safe Haven for Global Terrorists

Islamabad: A recent United Nations monitoring report has revealed that Afghanistan, under Taliban rule, has once again become a safe haven for international terrorist organizations, which are actively targeting Pakistan and other regional countries.

The report states that under the Doha Agreement, the Taliban had assured that Afghan territory would not be used for terrorism. However, recent evidence indicates that this commitment has not been upheld. Links between Al-Qaeda and the Taliban have reportedly strengthened, with the killing of Ayman al-Zawahiri in Kabul cited as a clear example.

According to the report, terrorist groups are entering Balochistan via routes through Zabul, Wardak, Kandahar, Paktia, and Helmand. Activities of the group Fitna al-Khawarij have also increased under Taliban supervision, with its leader, Noor Wali Mehsud, reportedly receiving $50,500 monthly, and possessing advanced weaponry left behind by U.S. forces.

The report also links Afghanistan to recent attacks in Pakistan, including the Jafar Express blast and Zhob Cantonment incident. The Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies notes a dangerous rise in terrorism incidents in recent months, prompting experts to call on global powers to impose strict sanctions on the Afghan Taliban under the Doha Agreement.
