Quetta Development Projects Face Delays: Gahi Khan Chowk Flyover Still Incomplete After Several Years

Quetta: The slow pace and poor quality of ongoing development projects in Quetta have sparked growing frustration among residents. Despite directives from the Chief Minister of Balochistan, many schemes under the **“CM Quetta Development Project”** remain delayed, with some showing little to no progress even after several years.
According to details, the **Gahi Khan Chowk Flyover project** remains incomplete after years of work, causing severe **traffic congestion and daily inconvenience** for citizens. Similarly, construction on the **New Sariab Road–Spiny Road–Airport Road** section has been proceeding at a **snail’s pace**, adding to commuters’ woes.
Sources revealed that construction of the **underpass or flyover** connecting these key routes has **not even begun**, indicating serious flaws in planning and technical execution.
Local residents and civic groups have expressed concern that the **delayed and substandard development work** has left Quetta’s infrastructure on the verge of collapse. Major entry and exit routes, main roads, and link arteries are in **dilapidated condition**, while development authorities appear to be mere spectators.
Under the **CM Quetta Development Project**, the provincial government had approved **multi-billion-rupee schemes**, including the Gahi Khan Chowk Flyover, Spiny Road to Airport Link Road, expansion of Sariab Road, and improvement of the city’s drainage system. However, **on-ground progress remains negligible**.
Social and political circles have urged the **Government of Balochistan** to **prioritize and accelerate** work on Quetta’s key development projects, establish an **independent audit commission** for transparent oversight, and **take strict action** against officials and contractors responsible for the prolonged delays — so that long-suffering citizens can finally see relief.
