National Party Opposes Merger of Levies Force into Police in Balochistan

Quetta:The **National Party’s central spokesperson** has strongly opposed the decision to merge the **Levies Force** into the **police**, calling it a negative policy that threatens to erase the identity of one of Balochistan’s oldest and most indigenous institutions.
In an official statement, the spokesperson said that the **Levies Force has played a crucial role** in maintaining law and order across Balochistan’s rural and tribal regions. “The strength of the Levies lies in its local composition — its personnel come from the same communities they serve, familiar with local traditions and customs. This makes them problem-solvers rather than troublemakers,” the statement noted.
The spokesperson added that the **Levies Force is considered more effective and trustworthy** than the police in many areas because of this close connection with the local population.
The National Party reaffirmed its belief that the **empowerment and strengthening of local institutions** is essential for the province’s development and lasting peace. “If the government truly aims to improve law and order, it should provide the Levies Force with **modern training, better salaries, and improved facilities**, rather than dismantling it,” the statement emphasized.
The party called on the government to **respect public sentiment** and maintain the **historic Levies Force** as a cornerstone of Balochistan’s local security structure and stability.
