Maryam Nawaz: Punjab Will Not Be Left Alone, Strong Response to Criticism

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has declared that Punjab’s people will not be abandoned in difficult times, warning that criticism will be met with a strong response. Speaking at the inauguration of the second phase of Lahore’s electric bus project, she said, *“When I say ‘our water,’ it means Punjab’s water — not Jati Umra’s.”*
The Chief Minister said the new electric buses are a gift to Lahore’s citizens, with a fare of just Rs. 20 and free travel for senior citizens and differently-abled individuals. The buses are equipped with Wi-Fi and mobile charging ports, while women will have separate compartments.
Maryam Nawaz criticized opponents for politicizing Punjab’s share of water and ridiculing relief efforts. *“During disasters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, I called Ali Amin Gandapur from Thailand to offer Punjab’s help. But when Punjab faced calamity, instead of support, salt was rubbed on our wounds,”* she said.
Rejecting calls for international aid, Maryam Nawaz stated, *“When there is an intention to serve the people, there is no need to beg from others. KP’s people are also our people, but unfortunately, they were misled against Punjab.”*
She emphasized that Punjab’s farmers were denied their rightful share of water due to political maneuvering, adding, *“If anyone speaks against Punjab, we will respond forcefully. I will never apologize for standing up for my people — those who mocked our relief efforts should apologize instead.”*
The event witnessed an enthusiastic welcome for the Chief Minister, with party workers showering her motorcade with flower petals. A documentary on the electric bus project was also presented, and details of new routes under Phase II were shared, including Raiwind to Jinnah Terminal (Thokar Niaz Baig) and Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura.
