Lahore High Court Overturns 14-Year Sentence in Child Assault Case

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court ruling in child assault appeal has set aside the 14-year prison sentence of a man convicted in a case involving the sexual assault of a seven-year-old girl.
The decision was announced by Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry while hearing the appeal filed by convict Munawar Ghafur.
According to case records, the FIR was registered by Faisal Town Police Station in 2018. A sessions court in Lahore had sentenced the accused to 14 years in prison in 2021.
During the hearing, defence counsel Chaudhry Waheed Jutt argued that the DNA test did not match the accused and that charges related to sexual assault were added to the case at a later stage.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court accepted the appeal and annulled the conviction, setting aside the earlier sentence.
