Possible Cyclone in Arabian Sea, Rain Likely in Karachi Today

Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its fourth alert regarding a possible cyclone in the Arabian Sea, warning of rain in Karachi and parts of southern and eastern Sindh today (Thursday).

According to the PMD, a low-pressure system over the northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Saurashtra coast has intensified. Over the past 12 hours, the system has slowly moved southwestward and is currently located about 440 kilometers south of Karachi. It is expected to continue moving towards the northwest Arabian Sea over the next two days.

Under the influence of this system, Karachi, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, and Tando Muhammad Khan are likely to experience dust storms and thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall at scattered places.

Wind speeds along the Sindh coast may reach 40 to 50 km/h, with gusts possibly exceeding 65 km/h in some areas. Sea conditions are expected to remain rough until October 3, and fishermen have been strictly advised to avoid venturing into deep waters.

The PMD warned that the system could bring winds of 45 to 55 km/h around its center, potentially strengthening further over the next two days, causing rough conditions in the central and west-central Arabian Sea.

The Cyclone Warning Centre in Karachi is closely monitoring the situation.
