Commissioner Quetta Highlights Key Development Plans, Waste Management and Water Issues

QUETTA:Commissioner Quetta Division Shahzeb Kakar has said that **Quetta has finally received long-overdue attention**, with major projects underway under the **Quetta Package and Public-Private Partnership initiatives**. He noted that the “Safa Quetta” project has already improved the city’s cleanliness, and in its second phase, **house-to-house garbage collection will begin**.

Speaking at the Quetta Press Club’s “Hal Ahwal” program alongside Deputy Commissioner Quetta, Shahzeb Kakar said that measures are being taken to **resolve the chronic traffic congestion issue** by activating the Traffic Engineering Bureau. He added that **old public transport is being replaced with new vehicles**, and the fleet of **green buses is being expanded**.

He further stated that **dairy farms within Quetta are being relocated outside the city** to address urban management challenges. On the serious issue of water shortage, Kakar revealed that citizens are wasting **50 million gallons of clean water** on vegetable farming and car washing. To counter this, a **comprehensive plan to stop illegal tube wells** is being prepared and will soon be presented to the Chief Minister of Balochistan.

Regarding drug addiction, the commissioner admitted that **government hospitals in Quetta lack facilities to treat drug addicts**. To address this, the administration is signing **MoUs with private institutions**, after which addicts in areas such as Sari Nala will be taken into rehabilitation.

Kakar also highlighted progress under the **Quetta Smart City project**, noting that many public services are being digitized so that **citizens can access key facilities from home**.
