PPP Secures Majority in Sindh By-Elections, Wins Key Seats in Karachi and Hyderabad

KARACHI:The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has emerged victorious in the Sindh local government by-elections, securing a clear majority across multiple districts, including Karachi and Hyderabad.

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, PPP candidates won 5 out of 9 seats for chairman and vice-chairman across 11 districts. One seat went to an independent candidate, while the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) won one seat. Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) secured two seats, and independents claimed another two.

In Karachi, elections were held on five seats across three districts. In District West, Orangi Town UC-1, PPP’s Shahneela Amir won the chairman seat with 3,801 votes, defeating TLP’s Muhammad Ali, who received 1,787 votes. In the same district, Manghopir UC-10, PPP’s Stephen Masih was elected vice-chairman with 891 votes, while ANP’s Ahsanullah stood second with 324 votes.

In District Keamari UC-8 (Baldia Town), PPP’s Muhammad Faisal won the vice-chairman seat with 3,132 votes, defeating independent candidate Hasnain Chauhan, who secured 1,084 votes. In District East, Sohrab Goth UC-8, PPP’s Shahroz Ahmed won the vice-chairman seat with 1,790 votes, while Jamaat-e-Islami’s Asif Ali Khan came second with 73 votes.

Meanwhile, in District West, Orangi UC-7, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Muhammad Bilal Naseer won the general member seat with 791 votes, narrowly defeating PPP’s Sheikh Azhar, who polled 749 votes.

Polling was held on 28 seats in 14 districts, including Sukkur, Khairpur, Ghotki, Hyderabad, Matiari, Jamshoro, Dadu, Badin, Thatta, and Mirpurkhas. Voting took place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. without major incidents reported.
