Shaukat Khanum Fundraising NOC Not Recently Revoked, Hospital Clarifies

ISLAMABAD: Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre has clarified that reports circulating on social media about the recent cancellation of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for its fundraising activities are based on an old incident and are being misrepresented.
The clarification came after a political figure shared a news graphic on X on February 15, claiming that authorities had revoked permission for a fundraising event in Karachi for the hospital. The post quickly gained traction, with many users viewing, sharing, and commenting on it, leading to widespread confusion.
This is called barbarism to cancel fund raising event for a project that every Pakistani is proud of Imran khan. At least keep politics out of such great philanthropist projects. pic.twitter.com/Jq73279hEs

In an official statement, the hospital administration explained that the matter actually dates back to December 29, 2023, when the Islamabad administration withdrew an NOC for a fundraising gala planned in Islamabad for the Karachi hospital project.
The spokesperson further clarified that since that incident, fundraising efforts and construction work on the Karachi project have continued without interruption. The hospital is expected to be completed by December 2026.
Clarification:
The news on social media about the withdrawal of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the Islamabad administration is from December 2023. To support its clarification, the hospital shared an official letter issued by the Islamabad District Magistrate’s Office in December 2023, instructing the cancellation of the event at that time. National media outlets had also reported the development when it occurred.
According to a fact-check review, the graphic recently circulated on social media is based on the 2023 incident and has been presented as a current development, causing misunderstanding. The hospital administration has urged the public to rely only on official sources for verified information.
