Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani: ‘No Personal Opinions in Front of Cameras’

Islamabad: Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court, who has challenged the actions of the Chief Justice in the Supreme Court, avoided giving personal remarks when asked about his expectations of justice.

While leaving the Supreme Court, a journalist asked if he hoped for support from the apex court. Justice Kayani responded, “We have always believed in the law with fairness and justice.”

When asked how he felt appearing as a petitioner, he replied, “Exactly the way an ordinary Pakistani feels.”

A journalist further asked whether this process gives the impression that even judges have to seek justice like common citizens. Justice Kayani declined to comment, saying, “I will not give any comment on that.” When pressed to share a personal opinion, he said, “There are no personal opinions in front of cameras.”

Answering another question, Justice Kayani clarified that he had completed hearing his cases before appearing in the Supreme Court. On being asked about leading any lawyers’ body, he remarked, “In that case, I would be practicing law, but now the question is what the current standard of advocacy is.”

Regarding whether he is sitting with the judges appointed to benches by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, Justice Kayani firmly stated, “No, they are not sitting with us.”
