Federal Government Releases Rs20 Billion Development Funds for MQM-P Lawmakers

Islamabad: The federal government has released Rs20 billion in development funds for Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) lawmakers under the Karachi-Hyderabad package. Of the total amount, Rs15 billion has been allocated for Karachi and Rs5 billion for Hyderabad.

According to sources, MQM lawmakers from Karachi and Hyderabad submitted their respective development schemes to the Pakistan Infrastructure Development Company Limited (PIDCL), where scrutiny has been completed. Following approval from the Central Development Working Party (CDWP), the projects will also be reviewed by ECNEC.

The funds will be utilized for public welfare projects, including flyovers, road construction and repairs, as well as water and sewerage solutions.

Sources within PIDCL further revealed that, apart from MQM lawmakers, Rs3 billion has also been allocated for PML-N lawmakers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while an additional Rs3 billion has been transferred under the Sustainable Development Goals Achievement Program (SAP). This brings the total released development funds to Rs26 billion so far.

It is worth noting that under SAP, MQM lawmakers in Karachi were earlier allocated Rs250 million each, with around 100 out of nearly 400 schemes having already completed tendering and contract award processes.
