Sindh CM Visits Guddu Barrage with Ministers to Review Flood Situation

Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister **Syed Murad Ali Shah**, accompanied by Senior Minister **Sharjeel Memon**, Irrigation Minister **Jam Khan Shoro**, and **Commander Coast Rear Admiral Faisal**, visited **Guddu Barrage** by helicopter to assess the emerging flood situation.
During the aerial survey, the Chief Minister, along with his team, reviewed flood risks using maps. Speaking to the media at Guddu Barrage, Murad Ali Shah said, *“Currently, water levels are rising at Ravi and Trimmu. Although we hope the situation will not escalate, we are preparing for a super flood, which could reach up to 900,000 cusecs.”*
He warned that in case of a super flood, **the entire katcha (riverine) area would be submerged**, and the Sindh administration has already begun preparations to evacuate residents. *“We have detailed maps, population data, and livestock records. These have been shared with the district administration, which has been directed to coordinate with PDMA,”* he added.
The Chief Minister praised the **Pakistan Navy’s support**, noting that he was in constant coordination with the **Pakistan Army and Rangers**. He emphasized that the government’s top priority was to **protect human lives and livestock**. For this purpose, **192 boats from PDMA, the Navy, and the Army** have been deployed in katcha areas.
Highlighting the risks, he said the **right bank of the Indus has six vulnerable points**, with the **KK bund being particularly dangerous**, while on the **left bank, Shaheen bund is highly sensitive**. He cautioned that if floodwaters reached **800,000 to 900,000 cusecs**, the Shaheen bund might not withstand the pressure, but stressed that saving it was the government’s top priority.
Murad Ali Shah further stated that Sindh still has time to prepare, as floodwaters from Trimmu would take around **five days to reach the province**, urging the public and media to cooperate with the administration when the time comes.
