Raisani Opposes Merger of Levies into Police, Terms It a ‘Colonial Security System

Quetta:Senior politician and former senator Nawabzada Haji Mir Lashkari Khan Raisani has strongly opposed the merger of Balochistan’s Levies Force into the police, calling it a conspiracy to impose a colonial-style security system in the province.
In a statement, Raisani said the Levies is not only a traditional institution of Balochistan but also enjoys the trust and cooperation of local communities, which has helped maintain peace in many areas. He noted that the livelihoods of many families are connected with this force.
He warned that by dissolving the Levies into the police, outsiders unfamiliar with Balochistan’s traditions and customs would be brought in, creating further issues instead of resolving them. “Assembly members should think about what answers they will give to future generations,” he remarked.
The former senator questioned whether the Levies had ever been deployed in Karachi, where law and order remained disturbed for years, stressing that maintaining peace is the responsibility of internal security institutions.
Raisani urged every citizen and public representative in Balochistan to fulfill their national responsibility and resist the introduction of what he described as a colonial security system.
