Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took a historic test ride on Pakistan’s first-ever urban electric train, the “Super Autonomous Rapid Transit” (SART), traveling from Ali Town to Muslim Town while personally monitoring the road test. This groundbreaking project marks a major step in transforming urban transportation in the country.
Marium Nawaz also visited the SART facilities and assessed the services available to passengers. Transport Minister Bilal Akbar provided a detailed briefing on the SART system. The Chief Minister observed the train’s performance amidst regular traffic and took note of its operational efficiency.
Residents along Raiwind Road and Canal Road expressed their excitement and joy upon seeing the electric train, which has already been successfully operating in countries like Turkey, China, Abu Dhabi, and others.
The “Super Autonomous Rapid Transit” features three carriages, with a capacity to carry 320 passengers, and it is designed to be eco-friendly, reducing pollution and enhancing traffic flow. After a single charge, the train can travel up to 40 kilometers, providing a sustainable mode of urban transport.
With air-conditioned carriages and state-of-the-art amenities, the SART promises to be a game-changer for daily commuters. Marium Nawaz highlighted the positive impact the project will have on Lahore’s beauty and stressed that similar projects are in the works for Gujranwala and Faisalabad as well.
She expressed that with the success of SART, the people of Punjab will experience “good news” every day.
