Trump’s New Move Makes Access to Chinese Goods Extremely Difficult for Americans

Washington: In a significant move, U.S. President Donald Trump has ended a law that allowed foreign companies to send goods worth \$800 or less to the U.S. without any tax. This decision has had a major impact on Chinese e-commerce giants like *Shein* and *Temu*, which previously shipped billions of dollars worth of inexpensive products to American consumers.
Under the new policy, all goods sent to the U.S. will now be subject to taxes, regardless of the country of origin. Trump justified the move by stating that small parcels often hide illegal items, making the step necessary for security and regulatory reasons.
Chinese companies had already started storing their goods in U.S. warehouses, but this solution is no longer viable as the new tax policy applies to shipments from all countries. As a result, consumers can expect an additional cost of approximately \$80 to \$200 on every item purchased from overseas, which is likely to affect American consumers, particularly those who rely on affordable online shopping.
Experts warn that the most significant impact will be felt by low-income American households, as they are the primary consumers of cheap Chinese goods. This law will come into effect on August 29.
