Inquiry Ordered After Woman Alleges She Gave Birth in Hospital Washroom at Karachi’s Jinnah Hospital

**KARACHI:** A controversy has emerged at Karachi’s Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre after a female patient allegedly gave birth in a washroom of the hospital’s gynecology ward, prompting an official inquiry into the incident.
The woman and her family have accused hospital staff of negligence, claiming that after waiting for nearly four hours without proper medical attention, she delivered her baby in the ward’s washroom with assistance from female relatives.
Videos circulating on social media show the patient recounting the incident, while another video reportedly shows the washroom where the childbirth allegedly took place.
However, the hospital administration has strongly denied the allegations. In an official statement, hospital authorities said the delivery occurred inside the labor room and described reports of a washroom birth as baseless.
According to a spokesperson for JPMC, the patient, Nadia, wife of Akram, was immediately attended to by doctors upon arrival at the gynecology emergency department and underwent a medical examination. Following a clinical assessment, the medical team decided that a normal delivery was in the patient’s best interest.
The hospital stated that a healthy baby was delivered in the labor room at 2:50 a.m. Officials further said the patient had several high-risk medical complications, including a low platelet count and other abnormal laboratory findings, requiring close medical monitoring.
The statement also claimed that the patient’s relatives later took her home against medical advice.
Hospital officials added that emergency staff remained fully engaged throughout the night, managing several critical cases, including cesarean sections and blood transfusions.
Meanwhile, on the instructions of the Executive Director of JPMC, an inquiry committee has been formed to investigate all aspects of the incident and determine the facts. The committee’s findings will be used to decide any further action.
