Goods Transporters Announce 6% Fare Cut After Petrol and Diesel Price Reduction

KARACHI: The Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a 6 percent reduction in freight charges following the federal government’s recent cut in petroleum product prices.

Speaking to the media, Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan welcomed the government’s decision to reduce diesel and petrol prices, saying the move would provide relief to the transport sector and the general public. He also expressed hope that fuel prices would be reduced further in the coming days.

He stated that due to ongoing economic pressure and what he described as “war-like conditions,” import and export activity in the country had declined significantly, resulting in a major drop in transport demand. According to him, thousands of goods vehicles have been parked as business activity has slowed.

Malik Shehzad Awan said the transport sector had been severely affected by rising fuel costs in recent months and that operators were running vehicles at a loss in the current environment. He added that the reduction in petroleum prices would help ease operational costs.

The Alliance also urged the government to provide further relief, including reductions in withholding tax, toll tax, and what it called “unfair fines” imposed by motorway and traffic police.

He further emphasized that lowering fuel prices and maintaining stability in petroleum rates would help reduce the cost of essential goods for ordinary citizens across the country.
