Federal Government Allocates Over PKR 13.63 Billion for Gwadar’s Development in PSDP 2025-26

ISLAMABAD:The federal government has allocated a significant sum of **PKR 13.63 billion** for various infrastructure, education, energy, and social development projects in **Gwadar** for the fiscal year 2025-26 under the **Public Sector Development Program (PSDP)**. This funding aims to accelerate the development of the city and contribute to broader national development goals.
**Key Projects and Allocations:**
1. **Gwadar-Rato Dero Road (M-8)** – This project has received the largest financial allocation, with **PKR 3 billion** provided to complete the road construction, which began in **January 2021**. The total cost of the road project is **PKR 38.02 billion**, with **PKR 32.89 billion** already spent.
2. **New Gwadar International Airport** – An important project for enhancing regional and international air connectivity, this project will receive **PKR 4 billion** this year, contributing to the total cost of **PKR 54.98 billion**, of which **PKR 42.71 billion** has already been spent.
3. **Gwadar Safe City Project** – Aimed at enhancing urban security through a modern surveillance system, this project has been allocated **PKR 1.5 billion** out of its total cost of **PKR 2.48 billion**.
4. **University of Gwadar (Phase 1)** – With an initial cost of **PKR 2.49 billion**, **PKR 500 million** has been allocated for the university’s establishment, which is set to begin operations in the near future.
5. **Clean Water and Sanitation Projects** – Long-term projects focusing on clean water supply, sanitation, and distribution have been allocated **PKR 470.6 million** for this fiscal year. These projects have already incurred **PKR 23 billion** in costs since their inception in **2010**.
6. **Old Town Gwadar Restoration Project** – Allocated **PKR 400 million**, this ongoing project aims to provide essential infrastructure to restore the historical town of Gwadar.
7. **Shehzink Dam Construction** – A critical water storage project for Gwadar, the **PKR 220 million** allocation is part of its total cost of **PKR 1.75 billion**, with work continuing since its approval in **2021**.
8. **Go to Projects for Education and Infrastructure**:
* **FG Junior Public School Gwadar** – Allocated **PKR 100 million** for the establishment of this school, with a total cost of **PKR 384.7 million**.
* **Higher Education Commission (HEC) Scholarship Scheme** – **PKR 18.3 million** has been allocated to continue providing scholarships to Gwadar students under this initiative, amounting to a total of **PKR 146.8 million** since 2017.
9. **Blue Economy Initiatives** – The **Gwadar Blue Economy Center (Phase-I)**, approved in **June 2024** at a cost of **PKR 3.92 billion**, will receive **PKR 15 million** this year to promote the emerging sector.
10. **Gwadar Master Plan** – For acquiring **750 acres** of land in the **Grandani South** area, **PKR 11.1 billion** has been allocated as part of the **PKR 39.2 billion** total cost.
11. **Power and Infrastructure Projects**:
* **Free Zone North and South Feeder Projects** – These will receive **PKR 384 million** to strengthen the electricity infrastructure in the region.
* **Off-Dock Terminal Infrastructure** – Allocated **PKR 100 million** to improve the off-dock terminal in **May 2025**.
12. **Railway Link from Gwadar to Jacobabad** – For land acquisition for the **Gwadar-Jacobabad Railway Link**, **PKR 10 million** has been allocated, with a total cost of **PKR 15.59 billion**.
13. **Model Customs Collectorate Gwadar** – Allocated **PKR 680 million**, this project is part of the infrastructure improvement in the region.
The government has also allocated substantial funds for **logistics and warehousing projects**, **tourism-related activities**, and the development of **amusement parks** and **resorts** to promote economic growth and improve quality of life in Gwadar.
