Rain Emergency Declared in Islamabad and Rawalpindi After Heavy Downpour

Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been hit by heavy rainfall, prompting the declaration of a *Rain Emergency* in various areas of both cities. According to the Managing Director (MD) of WASA, more than 80 millimeters of rain has been recorded in the twin cities so far.
WASA’s spokesperson stated that the rain gauge at various locations showed significant rainfall. At Syedpur, 90 mm, Shamsabad 80 mm, and Katarian recorded 55 mm of rain. Additionally, Golra received 30 mm, Bukhra 32 mm, and PMD reported 55 mm of rainfall.
In light of these conditions, the WASA spokesperson confirmed that they are on high alert in accordance with the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) forecast, and have officially activated the *Rain Emergency*.
The MD of WASA also mentioned that staff and heavy machinery have been deployed in low-lying areas. Continuous monitoring of Nullah Lai and other city drains is underway to ensure swift action in case of flooding. Currently, the water level in Nullah Lai at Katarian stands at 10 feet, while at the Gwalmandi Bridge, the level is 6 feet.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, scattered heavy rainfall is expected today in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Citizens have been advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
