Balochistan Must Solve Its Own Problems, Not Wait for Miracles: Nawabzada Haji Mir Lashkari Raisani

Quetta:Senior politician and former Senator Nawabzada Haji Mir Lashkari Khan Raisani has said that the people of Balochistan must demonstrate national unity and take charge of their own affairs rather than waiting for miracles. He strongly criticized mainstream political parties for compromising the province’s real representation, claiming that both past and present assemblies have sold off Balochistan’s resources under the guise of legislation.

Speaking at Sarawan House during a meeting with people from various walks of life on Tuesday, Raisani stated, *“Political parties trapped in compromises have deprived Balochistan of genuine representation. Yesterday, the assembly sold Reko Diq, and today’s dummy assembly is auctioning off the remaining resources. If we don’t stop these political criminals involved in this historical plunder, it will take centuries for the people of this province to break free from subjugation, slavery, and poverty.”*

He urged the people of Balochistan to collectively establish principles for resolving national matters and avoid further crises. Referring to the controversial in-camera session of the Balochistan Assembly on December 28, 2021, he said that instead of secretly selling Reko Diq, the parties should have treated it as a symbol of future prosperity.

Raisani condemned the recent passage of the Mines and Minerals Act, stating that it enables the unchecked selling of the province’s mineral wealth. He held that this exploitation can only be stopped by the people of Balochistan, who continue to suffer under a repressive and unjust system.

He also criticized political parties for allowing non-local and even foreign individuals into Parliament while sidelining genuine local political workers. *“Political parties have become quota seekers in the assembly, waiting for their turn, with no concern for Balochistan’s rights, development, or prosperity,”* he said. Instead, he alleged, their interest lies in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), which has been used as a tool for institutionalized corruption.

Raisani stressed the need for defending Balochistan’s rights *outside* of Parliament and urged every citizen to play their role in protecting the dignity and future of the next generation. He warned that if the people fail to unite intellectually and politically, they will continue to be ruled by fraudulent legislation and brute state power, leading to deeper enslavement.
