Shubman Gill Smashes Historic Double Century in England, Breaks Multiple Records

Birmingham:India’s Test captain Shubman Gill created history during the second Test of the five-match series against England, scoring a remarkable 269-run double century on the second day of play in Birmingham.
This is Gill’s maiden double century in Test cricket and now marks the highest individual score by an Indian Test captain, surpassing Virat Kohli’s 254 runs scored in 2019.
The 25-year-old has also become the first Indian captain to score a double century on English soil, breaking a 35-year-old record previously held by Mohammad Azharuddin, who scored 179 in Manchester in 1990.
Gill’s innings also surpassed Sunil Gavaskar’s iconic 221 at The Oval in 1979, making him the highest individual scorer for India in a Test innings in England.
India posted a massive first innings total of 587 runs, while England closed Day 2 at 77 for 3, trailing significantly.
England currently leads the series 1-0, but Gill’s monumental innings has given India a strong position in the second Test.
