Encroachment Crackdown Intensifies in Swat After Tragedy; Boundary Wall of Amir Muqam’s Hotel Demolished

Peshawar: Following the recent Swat tragedy, the government has intensified its operation against illegal encroachments along the banks of the Swat River. Over 40 structures have been demolished so far as part of the ongoing crackdown.
According to an official report, temporary rooms in the town of former Governor Ghulam Ali in Fizagat were demolished yesterday. The boundary wall of a hotel owned by PML-N leader Amir Muqam was also taken down, although the main building was declared clear of violations. Meanwhile, a deadline of today was issued for the evacuation of a wedding hall and petrol pump owned by a close relative of PTI MNA Saleemur Rehman.
On the other hand, Rescue 1122’s search operation to find a missing child who drowned in the river has entered its seventh day. Rescue teams have been tirelessly searching through the deep waters and strong currents. So far, 12 bodies have been recovered, while a boy named Abdullah from Sialkot remains missing. The search continues from Fizagat to Landakay, involving over 30 personnel including divers.
Investigations are ongoing to determine responsibility for the Swat incident. Director General of Rescue 1122, Shah Fahad, appeared before the inquiry committee, answering questions regarding his location during the incident, the timing of the first emergency call, and the rescue measures taken. He stated that he was in Peshawar at the time, and upon receiving the alert at 9:45 AM, rescue teams were dispatched and managed to save three individuals. Equipment including boats and divers were sent immediately, and an internal inquiry is underway, with some personnel suspended following the incident.
Speaking on the matter, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, affirmed that a thorough inquiry is being conducted and strict action will be taken against anyone found negligent. He emphasized that no one is above the law and all encroachments will be removed, regardless of the individual or political affiliation.
Gandapur also added that a province-wide operation against illegal encroachments is being launched, criticizing the opposition by saying, “The governor couldn’t even win a councillor’s seat, yet he’s dreaming of toppling our government. He was once called ‘Villa Manda,’ now he’s become ‘Chapata’.”
