Heavy Rainfall Expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Flood Risk in Rivers and Streams

Peshawar: The Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rainfall in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with a potential risk of flooding in rivers, streams, and local areas. According to the department, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and heavy downpours are expected in the coming days, which could lead to flash floods, river overflow, and landslides, especially in mountainous regions.
The areas of Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Battagram, and Shangla are expected to experience thunderstorms, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall. Similarly, the districts of Kohistan, Torghar, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kurram, and Mohmand are also likely to face heavy downpours.
In addition, cities like Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Kohat, Hangu, Khyber, Orakzai, Bannu, Karak, Laki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and the tribal areas of North and South Waziristan may also experience severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of possible flooding in rivers like Swat, Panjkora, and Kabul due to heavy rains, while local streams in districts like Swabi, Mardan, Mansehra, Kohistan, Dir, Shangla, and Waziristan are also at risk of flash floods. The low-lying areas of Peshawar, Nowshera, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan may face waterlogging and overflow conditions.
Furthermore, the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are at risk of landslides, which could disrupt traffic flow and lead to road closures.
On the previous day, rain was recorded in several areas including Kalam, Saidu Sharif, Malam Jabba, Balakot, and Peshawar. According to the Meteorological Department, Dera Ismail Khan recorded a temperature of 41°C, while Bannu and Mirkhani Chitral saw 40°C. Peshawar, Pattan, Kohat, and Lower Chitral recorded 38°C, while Kalam had a temperature of 28°C, Malam Jabba 25°C, Dir 34°C, and Lower Dir 36°C.
The Meteorological Department has advised citizens to take precautions and urged relevant authorities to be prepared for emergency situations.
