OGRA Announces Major Gas Price Hike for Domestic Consumers, Effective from July 1

Islamabad: In a significant development, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has issued a notification announcing a substantial increase in gas prices for domestic consumers, set to take effect from July 1.
According to Express News, amid ongoing inflationary pressures, the hike in gas tariffs is expected to impact millions of households across the country.
As per the notification, gas prices for domestic users will now range between Rs. 200 to Rs. 4200 per MMBTU. Protected domestic consumers will be charged between Rs. 200 to Rs. 350 per MMBTU, while non-protected domestic consumers will face rates ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs. 4200 per MMBTU.
Additionally, fixed monthly charges have also been introduced:
Protected consumers: Rs. 600
Non-protected consumers: Rs. 1,500
Non-protected consumers using more than 1.5 cubic meters: Rs. 3,000
Other categories have also seen revised rates:
Government, semi-government institutions, hospitals, and educational institutes: Rs. 3,175 per MMBTU
Tandoor (bread ovens): Rs. 110 to Rs. 700 per MMBTU
Commercial users: Rs. 3,900 per MMBTU
General industry: Rs. 2,300 per MMBTU
Captive power: Rs. 3,500 per MMBTU
CNG stations: Rs. 3,750 per MMBTU
Cement factories: Rs. 4,400 per MMBTU
Fertilizer factories: Rs. 1,597 per MMBTU
Power generation plants, including K-Electric: Rs. 1,225 per MMBTU
This move is likely to add further financial strain on both households and businesses already grappling with high living costs.
