Trump’s Strike Was Not on Iran, But on Himself: Senior Journalist Hamid Mir

Lahore : Reacting to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement that “peace is being established in collaboration with the United States,” senior journalist and political analyst Hamid Mir stated that peace has never been achieved through the use of force.
Mir drew a comparison between President Donald Trump’s address following the strike on Iran and the speech delivered by former U.S. President George W. Bush after the 9/11 attacks. “If you listen to Bush’s address to the nation after 9/11 and Trump’s recent speech, you will notice striking similarities,” Mir said.
He noted that after attacking Iran, Trump declared victory and Netanyahu thanked him, echoing the situation post-9/11 when the U.S. claimed success after launching the war in Afghanistan. “Back then too, the U.S. said it had won the war, but years later, it had to withdraw from Afghanistan in humiliation.”
Hamid Mir emphasized that while the United States undoubtedly possesses immense military strength, history has shown that military power alone does not guarantee lasting success. “The U.S. could not win in Vietnam, nor did it succeed in Afghanistan or Iraq. Military strength only translates into lasting victory when it is backed by political power,” he said.
Mir also pointed out the domestic backlash Trump faced. “Many members of Congress are not supporting this attack, with several calling it illegal since U.S. law requires congressional approval before launching an offensive on another nation.”
“Trump has not attacked Iran; he has attacked himself,” Mir asserted. “You will see that this move will cause serious challenges for him not only within the U.S. but also on the global stage. Netanyahu may be delighted and has even thanked Trump, but Trump, in the process, has lost many of his allies. This strike serves neither America’s interests nor Trump’s own,” he concluded.
